The Junior League of Monmouth County to Host Luncheon with Author and Activist David Goldman on December 3, 2011
Monmouth County, New Jersey (November 11, 2011) - The Junior League of Monmouth County's (JLMC) will host a luncheon featuring David Goldman father, author and activist on Saturday, December 3rd 2011 as part of its Home for the Holidays fund raising weekend.
David fought an inspiring five-year battle to be reunited with his son, Sean, who was abducted to Brazil in June 2004 and returned to the United States on Christmas Eve 2009 - a true Christmas miracle. The case received international media attention and introduced many around the world to the growing, tragic issue of international parental child abduction. Increased awareness and support for the Goldman case eventually led to the personal involvement of a number of prominent U.S. government officials, including President Barack Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Congressman Christopher Smith (NJ), and U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg.
Goldman is now devoting much of his time public speaking and advocacy work on behalf of victims of international child abduction. David is also co-founder of the Bring Sean Home Foundation (www.BringSeanHome.org). Goldman has testified as a lead witness at congressional hearings on the issue of international child abduction and has consulted members of Congress drafting legislation to reduce the number of internationally abducted children and prevent future abductions. He has called for reforms that would treat the issue as a serious human rights problem and emphasize the need for the swift return of abducted children to their home countries.
Mr. Goldman authored the recently released A Father's Love: One Man's Unrelenting Battle to Bring His Abducted Son Home (Viking/Penguin), which provides a first-hand account of his fight to reunite with his son and his ongoing advocacy work. David has appeared on many nationally and internationally syndicated television and radio programs, including NBC's Dateline, NBC's Today Show, ABC's Good Morning America, CNN's Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, CNN's Larry King Live, and Fox News. He has also been featured in various nationally distributed publications.
This luncheon will take place at Taste Restaurant located in the Galleria at 10 Bridge Avenue in Red Bank, NJ on December 3rd from 11:30 to 1:30 pm. Tickets are $50.00 each and include a glass of wine or beer. Tickets can be purchase by visiting www.JLMC.org.
All proceeds raised from the Home for the Holidays event will go to support the JLMC, an all- volunteer nonprofit organization, which prepares its members to serve as leaders and catalysts for change through extensive volunteer and leadership training. The JLMC's current community focus is on empowering women in crisis to learn the basic life skills they need to be independent. The JLMC is comprised of approximately 300 women, living in both Monmouth and Ocean counties, who give over 20,000 hours of volunteer service each year. Membership is open to any woman, age 21 or over, with an interest and commitment to voluntarism.
